Food for thought: Want some "Catch Up" with those Lies?

Task Force on Community School District Governance Reform - 2003

I'm stuck on wanting the democratic right returned to the community to have local elected school boards.

Doing some project research, I came across a fascinating document on the Internet. It's a chunk of history, for real.

This is the transcript of the very last meeting of the five held around the city in January, eaight years ago. I was so clueless back then, I didn't even know there was a Task Force of assorted characters whose job was hear, and then report back to the state why school boards should or shouldn't be abolished under mayoral control.

(There must be more testimony that got left out for all the people who showed up, but I can't find it). Sister-Activist Ellen Raider gave testimony and turned in an alternative plan. In fact, there's also a host of people we all now know-- some sucked up and kissed a$$, some held their ground and said "oh, hell no."

Brother Sam was mentioned, but there's no testimony-- and Esmerlda Simmons, Esq. told them that the Justice Department needed to investigate the taking away of democratic rights.

Some other testimony givers came with written plans they only had time to briefly discuss. Seemed like almost everyone was readily looking for ways to play a role in the new system under mayoral control, including sharing a lot about parents and engagement.

Included within the document is the public introduction by Joel Klein (backed up by Walcott) of Parent Coordinators for every school who would act as "ombudsman."

Very interesting to look back at how they crafted the manipulation, when not enough of us were paying close attention-- especially now that we know how the forked-tongued-con-men and their lies played out in 2011.
