Putting Our Hearts into Public Schools

Thank you, Elizabeth Stone for penning these poignant words:

"Being a Mother means
forever having your heart
walk around outside of your body."

This is the sentiment felt every minute of everyday for NYC moms, but it is especially wrenching at this Back-to-School time of year.

With a hug and kiss to our children as they enter their school buildings, our greatest hope is for the best.

Since the majority of our school communities are comprised of women* (lots being moms, too), we are taking a moment to recognize all the superintendents, principals, teachers, para-professionals, parent coordinators, school aides, lunch ladies, librarians, secretaries, nurses, guidance counselors, social workers and safety agents, by saying a very special:

Thank you.

Thank you for being our eyes and ears during school hours. As workers, you are also putting your hearts back into jobs on behalf of our city's children, be they enrolled in either public or charter schools. Thank you for showing kindness and caring as only nurturing women can.

With all of our combined hearts, positive energies, and true concern for children--- women and moms are all hoping, but more importantly, uniting in our work at schools and in our homes for better educational outcomes for every single child in New York City.

We are The MANY.

* We honor and value the individual men committed to partnering with us; those who do not hit, and have demonstrated through their lives, deeds, work, speech and actions to respect and uphold human rights and dignity of all individuals.
